By the end of Alabama football’s loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday, the Crimson Tide was thin at wide receiver. Kendrick Law was absent from the game due to a “lower-leg” injury, as indicated in the Friday availability report, while Kobe Prentice left the game after suffering a head injury and did not return.
During the SEC coaches’ teleconference on Wednesday, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer provided updates on both players.
“Both of them are out here going through workouts,” DeBoer said. “They’re on track like we expected, making progress toward the weekend. I wouldn’t say they’re at full speed yet, but they’re moving in the right direction. They’re doing individual work and some team drills, so it’s coming along, and they’re doing a good job.”
Prentice sustained the head injury after a hit from two Vanderbilt defenders in the second quarter. The play initially drew a targeting penalty, but the call was reversed after a review.
Law, who was initially listed as questionable, was officially ruled out last Friday. The SEC requires teams to release daily availability reports starting on Wednesday ahead of conference games.
Alabama is also facing a key defensive absence. Yhonzae Pierre, a redshirt freshman, is set to miss Saturday’s game after posting a photo from a hospital bed on Instagram. DeBoer confirmed the news.
“Yhonzae won’t be with us this weekend due to his injury,” DeBoer said. “We just got more details on it yesterday afternoon, so he’s out for this weekend. We’ll see what happens after that.”
Pierre has recorded two tackles and two pass breakups this season.
Alabama will aim to rebound from the upset loss in Nashville as they face South Carolina in Tuscaloosa. The game kicks off at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday and will be broadcast on ABC.
