The Vegas Golden Knights have officially added a seasoned player to their roster. News broke on Friday that forward Tanner Pearson has signed a one-year deal worth $775,000 for the 2024-25 season. Pearson had been participating in the Golden Knights’ training camp on a professional tryout agreement but has now earned a permanent spot on the roster.

Tanner Pearson Joins the Golden Knights

The 32-year-old Pearson brings a wealth of experience, having played for the Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, and Montreal Canadiens over his 11-year NHL career. Last season, while with the Canadiens, Pearson recorded five goals and eight assists, totaling 13 points across 54 games.

Throughout his career, Pearson has amassed 138 goals and 147 assists for 285 points in 644 NHL games. He was initially drafted by the Kings in the first round, 30th overall, during the 2012 NHL Draft. His best season came during the 2016-17 campaign with the Kings, where he posted career highs with 24 goals and 44 points. Pearson also boasts a Stanley Cup victory with Los Angeles in the 2013-14 season.

What Pearson Brings to Vegas

Although Pearson’s production has decreased in recent years, his value lies in his versatility and experience. He can contribute to the bottom part of the Golden Knights’ lineup and offers depth that could prove invaluable over the long NHL season. He’s already made an impression in the preseason, netting two goals and an assist, and earning praise from head coach Bruce Cassidy for his efforts.

At a bargain price of $775,000, Pearson could turn out to be a hidden gem for Vegas General Manager Kelly McCrimmon. While expectations should remain tempered given Pearson’s recent form, his experience and ability to provide timely contributions make him a key addition for the Golden Knights as they gear up for the 2024-25 campaign.
