Sad News: Philadelphia Phillies Dealing with Injury Scare to All-Star Reliever Heading into Playoffs….

The Philadelphia Phillies are dealing with an injury scare as they head into the playoffs, with All-Star reliever Jeff Hoffman missing a simulated game due to a “stiff neck.” Manager Rob Thomson revealed the news on Wednesday, noting that holding Hoffman out was a precautionary measure.

Despite the setback, Thomson reassured reporters that Hoffman will “be fine” and ready for the upcoming National League Division Series (NLDS). The Phillies are set to face the winner of the New York Mets-Milwaukee Brewers Wild Card series.

Hoffman, who enjoyed a breakout season in 2024 with the eighth-best ERA (2.17) among National League relievers with at least 60 innings pitched, has become a key player in Thomson’s bullpen. After being named an All-Star for the first time, Hoffman’s performance has been a major asset for the Phillies. He is set to become a free agent after the season, but the Phillies are reportedly interested in bringing him back for 2025.

Hoffman’s rise with the Phillies began in 2023, when he impressed team officials while throwing batting practice to Bryce Harper, leading to a call-up from the minors. Since then, he has solidified his role as one of the team’s most reliable bullpen arms.

On a positive note, Thomson also provided an encouraging update on starter Ranger Suarez, who struggled after the All-Star break due to a back injury. After pitching two innings in a simulated game, Suarez showed significant improvement, which eased concerns about his readiness for the playoffs. Suarez, an All-Star in 2024, had a rough second half of the season, posting a 6.54 ERA in 11 starts since June 30.

For the Phillies to succeed in the postseason, both Hoffman and Suarez will need to be at their best. First pitch for Game 1 of the NLDS is scheduled for 4:08 p.m. on Saturday, October 5.
