Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class has taken another hit, as sensational four-star wide receiver Malik Clark has decommitted from the Seminoles. The decision comes as a disappointment for head coach Mike Norvell, especially as the team struggles with a challenging start to the season.
Clark, who had initially committed to FSU in July over offers from South Carolina, North Carolina, and NC State, announced his decision to back off from his pledge on Tuesday evening. His decommitment marks the third major prospect to step away from the Seminoles since the start of the 2024 season.
Florida State has faced mounting issues on the field, with losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College causing significant turmoil within the program. Alongside Clark, four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles recently flipped his commitment to Texas, and four-star defensive end Javion Hilson also reopened his recruitment.
Clark’s decision to decommit likely stems from the ongoing struggles of the Seminoles, with FSU’s performances impacting recruits’ confidence in the program’s direction.
Despite the setback, Clark is having an impressive senior season, recording 31 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns. His junior year was equally strong, with 46 catches for 800 yards and nine touchdowns. Additionally, he’s a standout in track and field, placing third in the South Carolina 5A 100-meter finals with a time of 10.62 seconds.

Standing at 6-foot-2.5 and 183 pounds, Clark is ranked as the No. 212 overall prospect, the No. 24 wide receiver, and the No. 3 recruit in South Carolina for the class of 2025, according to 247Sports.
With Clark’s departure, FSU’s recruiting class ranking has dropped from No. 29 to No. 35 nationally. The Seminoles still have 11 verbal commitments, including four-star wide receivers CJ Wiley and Daylan McCutcheon, but both recruits are being heavily pursued by other top programs in college football.
As Florida State continues to navigate a tough season, Coach Norvell will need to stabilize his roster and reinforce the program’s appeal to top talent to avoid further losses in recruitment.
