The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially strengthened their roster with the acquisition of a 31-year-old All-Pro wide receiver, providing head coach Mike Tomlin a much-needed boost ahead of the season. Just months after the Steelers were involved in trade talks for All-Pro receiver Brandon Aiyuk, they have now managed to land another elite talent in veteran receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Adams requested a trade from the Raiders, opening the door for several teams, including the Steelers, to pursue him. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders were seeking a package centered around a second-round pick and additional compensation—a price the Steelers were reportedly willing to meet after their earlier pursuit of Aiyuk fell through.
The acquisition of Adams couldn’t come at a better time for the Steelers, who have struggled offensively this season. Despite a recent win against the Indianapolis Colts where they scored a season-high three touchdowns, the team has been lacking reliable offensive weapons. Calvin Austin III remains the only wide receiver to catch a touchdown from quarterback Justin Fields through four games, with no other receiver exceeding 50 yards in receiving.
Adams, even in limited action due to a hamstring injury, would immediately become the team’s top receiving threat. In just three games this season, he already leads the Raiders in receiving yards and touchdowns, making him a critical addition to Pittsburgh’s offensive arsenal.
While Adams’ hamstring injury may raise some concerns, the Steelers are not expected to rush him into action. They may wait until closer to the trade deadline to ensure he’s fully recovered, but his arrival marks a significant upgrade to their wide receiver corps and bolsters their playoff hopes moving forward.
