The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially announced the signing of veteran offensive lineman Max Scharping, following a string of injuries on their offensive line. Scharping, a former second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Northern Illinois, brings extensive starting experience to the team. The 6’6″, 325-pound lineman has appeared in 79 NFL games, starting 33 of them.
Scharping’s addition comes as the Steelers look to bolster their offensive line, which has been hit hard by injuries this season. Most notably, starting guard James Daniels is expected to be placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn Achilles in the team’s Week 4 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Scharping was originally drafted by the Houston Texans and later spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders.

Though he didn’t see the field during his time with the Commanders, his versatility and experience make him a valuable asset for Pittsburgh as they look to stabilize their offensive line under head coach Mike Tomlin.
The Steelers will likely make a corresponding roster move soon to accommodate Scharping, who is expected to contribute immediately.
