The Philadelphia Phillies have officially announced their search for an ideal replacement for struggling pitcher Taijuan Walker. Despite the team’s strong standing in the National League, their rotation has a glaring weak spot in the No. 5 position, where Walker has struggled mightily, posting a 7.10 ERA and a 1.72 WHIP in 19 appearances. Walker, a former All-Star, has failed to live up to his $18 million contract, leaving the Phillies in need of a dependable arm to round out their rotation.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Phillies have expressed interest in Chicago White Sox starter Garrett Crochet. The 25-year-old lefty finished the season with a 3.58 ERA and 209 strikeouts, ranking fourth in the American League despite fewer innings pitched than his competitors. Crochet, known for his high velocity and sharp command, could fill the void left by Walker and bolster a Phillies rotation that already features All-Stars like Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez, and Ranger Suarez.
While Crochet has expressed interest in a long-term contract with the White Sox, the team appears intent on trading him this offseason. His availability is expected to attract significant interest from contenders across the league, and the Phillies’ deep pool of pitching prospects could make them serious players in trade discussions.
If Philadelphia successfully lands Crochet, he would provide a much-needed boost to a rotation aiming to remain one of the best in baseball, setting the stage for a deep playoff run in 2025.
