The Vancouver Canucks have officially announced the signing of 19-year-old forward Vilmer Alriksson to a three-year, entry-level contract. The towering Swedish prospect, standing 6’6″ and weighing 234 pounds, has shown immense promise and potential, catching the attention of the Canucks’ management.
Alriksson impressed last season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm, where he tallied 17 goals and 16 assists in 67 games. Before his time in the OHL, Alriksson played in Sweden for Djurgårdens Jr., recording 21 points (12 goals, 9 assists) over 43 games.
Drafted 107th overall by Vancouver in the 2023 NHL Draft, Alriksson has continued to make an impact during the Canucks’ pre-season. Notably, he delivered a massive hit on Seattle’s Logan Morrison and followed it up with a fight against veteran John Hayden during a 3-1 win over the Kraken, showcasing his physical presence and grit.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin praised the young forward’s size, skating, and skill, stating, “We really like his size, skating ability, and skill set, and we will continue to monitor his progress this year as we help Vilmer prepare for the next step in his hockey career.”
Alriksson’s development will be closely watched, as he looks to be a key piece of the Canucks’ future.
