New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo has confirmed a significant roster adjustment, announcing the release of 28-year-old veteran offensive tackle. This decision comes after Anderson was initially expected to play a key role in the Patriots’ offensive line for the 2024 season.
Anderson, who spent the 2023 season with the Patriots and started two games, had his year cut short after being diagnosed with malaria. Despite a promising outlook for the upcoming season, Anderson was a surprise omission from the team’s final 53-man roster following training camp. He was placed on injured reserve before being released via an injury settlement shortly thereafter.
The release of Anderson is notable given New England’s ongoing issues with their offensive line. Last week, the Patriots started rookie Caedan Wallace at left tackle, highlighting the need for depth and experience on the O-line.
Anderson has since found a new opportunity, signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are currently 3-0. The Steelers, dealing with their own injuries on the offensive line, brought in Anderson after rookie tackle Troy Fautanu suffered a season-ending dislocated kneecap. Anderson is expected to serve as a backup, providing depth to a reshuffled Steelers offensive line as they aim to maintain their strong start to the season.
