“Shocking” : Red Sox General Manager Alex Cora Shares Shocking Update Amid Key Changes Ahead of the 2024-25 Season…

The Boston Red Sox are set to make a significant change to their uniform rotation ahead of the 2025 season, and fans might be surprised by the decision. General Manager Alex Cora has confirmed that the team will retire their blue alternate jerseys in favor of keeping the popular yellow, Boston Marathon-inspired City Connect uniforms as a permanent part of their lineup.

This shift was officially revealed by the team’s chief marketing officer, Adam Grossman, who explained that the Red Sox will no longer wear the blue alternates, which had been a staple in recent years. “Given the popularity of our yellow uniforms with both players and fans, we have elected to keep it as a core uniform offering for the foreseeable future,” Grossman told MassLive. “We will unveil a City Connect 2.0 uniform in 2025 and will no longer wear our blue alternate jerseys.”

The Red Sox’s current uniform lineup consists of their traditional home whites, road grays, and red alternates, with the City Connect yellow uniforms now taking the place of the blue jerseys. These marathon-themed uniforms were originally introduced to honor the city’s resilience, and their success on the field hasn’t gone unnoticed—Boston went 26-7 while wearing them in previous seasons.

Cora has also provided some clarity on how the team will use their updated uniform set. “We’re going to use the red on Fridays, the City Connect on Saturdays, and the rest of the week will be for our traditional whites,” Cora said. “On the road, it’ll be mostly gray, with the blue tops on Fridays, but there will be structure to it.”

The decision to keep the yellow uniforms has received wide support, though some fans may find it bittersweet to say goodbye to the blue alternates, which were worn during the Red Sox’s 2018 World Series win against the Dodgers in Game 5. However, with the continued popularity of the City Connect jerseys, Boston is leaning into a new era of tradition and fan-favorite looks.

As Cora pointed out, the yellow uniforms may be beloved, but they won’t serve as a magical fix for the team’s challenges. Reflecting on their initial success in the bright jerseys, Cora famously said, “We cannot rely on yellow whenever we suck.” It’s clear the team is making these changes with an eye toward both honoring tradition and embracing a fresh future.
