The New England Patriots are set to welcome back some much-needed help to their offensive line.
Left guard Sidy Sow, who has missed the first three games of the 2024 season due to an ankle injury, will return to practice on Monday, head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed. Sow, sidelined since August 25, is a crucial addition to a Patriots’ offensive line that struggled significantly in their Week 3 loss to the New York Jets, allowing seven sacks and 15 QB hits. The Jets managed to pressure the Patriots on 53.8% of their dropbacks.
“He’ll be out there today,” Mayo said of Sow. “Hopefully, he’ll be moving around a little bit, and we’ll see how he responds tomorrow.”
Mayo also provided an update on tackle Vederian Lowe, who has been out since the Patriots’ Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. While Mayo couldn’t provide a specific timeline for Lowe’s return, he mentioned that Lowe would be back on the practice field.
“I wish I could give you a timeline, but I can’t,” Mayo said. “He’ll be out there, but I’m not sure how much he’ll do.”
Having Sow and Lowe back for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers would be a significant boost. In their absence, rookie Caedan Wallace has filled in at left tackle, while Michael Jordan has stepped in at left guard.
In more positive news, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is making progress in his recovery from a torn ACL suffered in October last season. Mayo noted that Bourne is running fast and looking good in his routes, signaling he may be close to returning.
Kickoff for the Patriots-49ers game is set for 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
