Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajaković has delivered concerning news ahead of the season, announcing that 23-year-old forward Scottie Barnes will miss the first three games due to an injury setback. The 2022 NBA Rookie of the Year, who is considered one of the team’s cornerstone players, sustained an injury during preseason training, and the recovery timeline will keep him off the court for the start of the regular season.
Rajaković expressed disappointment in losing Barnes for the opening stretch but reassured fans that the medical staff is working diligently to ensure his full recovery. “It’s tough to start the season without Scottie, especially given how much he means to our team,” said Rajaković. “We’re focused on getting him back to 100%.”
Barnes, who averaged 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game last season, was expected to take a larger leadership role in the Raptors’ lineup this year. His absence will force the team to rely more heavily on other key players such as Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby during the opening games.
While Barnes’ injury is a setback, the Raptors remain optimistic that he will return stronger later in the season, ready to help push the team toward playoff contention.
