Done Deal: Canucks Officially Announced the Signing of the 25-yera-old Experienced Goaltender to a Professional Tryout…

The Vancouver Canucks have strengthened their goaltending depth by signing 25-year-old netminder Dylan Ferguson to a professional tryout offer (PTO), as announced by general manager Patrik Allvin on Sunday evening.

Ferguson, originally from Lantzville on Vancouver Island, spent last season with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL, where he posted a 2.51 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage over 23 games. Standing at 6-foot-2, Ferguson was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Though Ferguson has limited NHL experience, having appeared in three career games—one with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017-18 and two with the Ottawa Senators in 2022-23—his signing comes as the Canucks seek to solidify their goalie options. With starting goaltender Thatcher Demko’s status for the season opener still uncertain due to injury recovery, Vancouver had previously explored options like free agents Kevin Lankinen and Antti Raanta, but those talks did not result in contracts.

Ferguson will now have a chance to prove his value during training camp, offering a potential solution as the Canucks navigate their goaltending concerns ahead of the new season.
