Sad News: Auburn Football’s Elite 5-Star Commit Out of the Starting Line-up for Hugh Freeze…

Following a tough 21-14 loss to Cal at Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is reportedly making a major change at quarterback.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Auburn is set to bench starting QB Payton Thorne in favor of freshman Hank Brown for this Saturday’s homecoming game against New Mexico.

Thorne struggled in the recent loss, throwing four interceptions. Over the season’s first three games, he’s managed five touchdowns and 487 passing yards.

Brown, a standout from Nashville, saw limited collegiate action in Auburn’s Music City Bowl appearance against Maryland, where he completed 7 of 9 passes for 132 yards. Brown is highly regarded, having led his high school team to a state championship under coach Trent Dilfer.

Auburn is scheduled to kick off against New Mexico at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
