Sad News: Broncos Officially Cut Off Another $45M Top Experienced Superstar Due To…

The Denver Broncos have officially parted ways with quarterback Zach Wilson, cutting their $45 million backup as trade rumors swirl. With teams like the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants reportedly eyeing the quarterback, Wilson could soon find himself with a new team.

According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, Wilson is a top trade candidate, sitting at No. 6 on his “trade block big board.” Knox noted that Wilson’s preseason flashes, similar to those of Mac Jones, could generate interest, especially for teams dealing with quarterback uncertainties.

“The Packers, dealing with Jordan Love’s injury, could be looking for a replacement soon. Meanwhile, the Giants are facing a rough start with Daniel Jones underperforming in Week 1,” Knox explained.

Wilson, who was Denver’s emergency third quarterback during the Broncos’ Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, was beat out for the starting job by rookie Bo Nix and veteran Jarrett Stidham during training camp. Wilson was acquired from the New York Jets in an offseason trade, with the Broncos hoping to recoup their 2024 sixth-round pick by trading him.

“Wilson, another first-round disappointment from the 2021 draft class, is behind both Nix and Stidham on the Broncos’ depth chart,” Knox added. “He could be viewed as an expendable trade chip.”

The Packers’ uncertainty following Love’s injury and the Giants’ quarterback struggles make them potential landing spots for Wilson. Jones’ injury history and backup Drew Lock’s inexperience leave the Giants vulnerable, and Wilson could be thrown into the mix as a temporary solution.

Despite his struggles, Broncos general manager George Paton remains optimistic about Wilson’s future, believing he still has the potential to be an NFL starter. “He has all the starting traits in the world. He’s still working through some things, but I believe he’ll be a starter in this league,” Paton said in August.

Drafted second overall by the Jets in 2021, Wilson’s time in New York was tumultuous. Despite his 12-21 record as a starter and 23 touchdowns against 25 interceptions, he’ll still pocket the entirety of his rookie contract, including a $22.9 million signing bonus.

As the Broncos move forward, Wilson’s next chapter remains uncertain, but with teams in need of quarterback help, the phone may start ringing soon.
