Pittsburgh Penguins star center Sidney Crosby is heading into the 2024-25 NHL season on an expiring contract, but he doesn’t expect that situation to last much longer. With the Penguins set to open their season on October 9th against the New York Rangers, Crosby is confident a new deal will be in place before then.
Crosby is in the final year of a 12-year, $104.4 million contract he signed back in 2012, earning $8.7 million this season. Although he has been eligible for an extension since July, negotiations have taken longer than expected.
Despite the delay, Crosby remains optimistic. Speaking with reporters earlier this week, he downplayed any concerns and expressed confidence that a deal will be finalized soon.
“I’m pretty optimistic it’s going to get done,” Crosby said. “I don’t know what day specifically, but it’s been really positive. It hasn’t been a difficult process at all.”
Crosby, a franchise legend with three Stanley Cups to his name, continues to perform at an elite level. Last season, he played in all 82 regular-season games, recording 42 goals and 52 assists for 94 points, his highest point total since the 2018-19 season when he hit the 100-point mark.
With his continued production and importance to the team, Penguins fans are eagerly awaiting the official news of their captain’s next deal.
