DONE DEAL: Red Wings Have Agreed Terms with Calgary Flames to Land the $38 Million Top Star Forward…

The Detroit Red Wings are making a strategic move to end their playoff drought by adding a top-tier goal scorer to their lineup. According to PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, a proposed trade would see the Red Wings acquiring Yegor Sharangovich from the Calgary Flames.

Trade Details:

Red Wings Receive:

  • Yegor Sharangovich

Flames Receive:

  • Nate Danielson
  • Ville Husso
  • 2025 second-round pick

The trade would see Detroit gain Sharangovich, a proven scorer, in exchange for top prospect Danielson, backup goalie Husso, and a draft pick. Sharangovich, who is in the final year of his two-year, $6.2 million contract, signed a five-year, $28.75 million extension with Calgary. At 26, he aligns well with Detroit’s young core and would join the Red Wings for the next six seasons.

Last season with the Flames, Sharangovich posted 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 points over 82 games, following his trade from the New Jersey Devils.

In return, the Red Wings would part with Danielson, a promising forward selected ninth overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, who could make his NHL debut this season. Danielson, who turns 20 on September 27, tallied 24 goals and 43 assists for 67 points in 54 WHL games last season.

Ville Husso, currently blocked after the Red Wings signed Cam Talbot as their starter, is also included in the trade. With the addition of Alex Lyon and Jack Campbell in the mix, Husso, who is in the final year of his three-year, $14.25 million deal, has seen limited opportunities. Last season, Husso had a 9-5-2 record with a 3.55 GAA and a .892 SV%.

Sharangovich’s New Chapter with the Flames

Acquired by Calgary on June 27, 2023, as part of the Tyler Toffoli trade, Sharangovich quickly adapted to his new team. He signed a five-year extension with the Flames on July 1 and expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season. “I’m comfortable here, and the trust and support from the coaches have been invaluable,” Sharangovich told NHL.com. “I had a strong season last year due to their confidence in me. I’ve been working hard this summer, and I’m ready for the new season.”

Selected 141st overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Devils, Sharangovich has played 287 games, notching 84 goals and 81 assists for 165 points.

Red Wings GM Optimistic About New Look Roster

Detroit Red Wings

Despite narrowly missing the playoffs last season, the Red Wings have made significant additions, including Vladimir Tarasenko, Talbot, Tyler Motte, and Erik Gustafsson, while re-signing Patrick Kane. General Manager Steve Yzerman is optimistic about the team’s playoff chances. “I believe we’re in the mix with teams that have a shot at the playoffs,” Yzerman said. “If we stay healthy, get solid goaltending, and have players exceed expectations, we might just make it. It’s all about fine margins. Comparing this year’s roster to last year’s, it looks like a better fit with improved roles.”

The Red Wings will kick off the 2024-25 NHL season at home on October 10 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
