Wednesday turned out to be a tough day for Colin Rea and the Milwaukee Brewers as the San Francisco Giants handed them a crushing 13-2 defeat. Rea, 34, struggled mightily on the mound, surrendering 10 earned runs on 11 hits in just four innings. His rough outing included giving up three home runs and a walk, leading to one of his worst performances of the season.
Despite Rea’s struggles, Brewers manager Pat Murphy offered a balanced perspective on the situation.
“It seemed like every ball they hit found a gap where no fielder was,” Murphy said after the game. “Tough one. But Colin hung in there and gave us four innings so we didn’t have to dig too deep into our bullpen. He didn’t have his best stuff today, but I’m confident in him. He’s probably feeling a little worn out, like a lot of our guys. But there’s no time to rest. He’ll bounce back.”
While Rea’s performance was shaky, the Brewers’ offense also failed to spark any comeback, going just 2-for-34 overall and 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The combination of lackluster pitching and a cold offense resulted in Milwaukee’s fifth loss in their last seven games.
Rea’s difficult outing saw his ERA jump from 3.72 to 4.21. He now holds a 12-5 record with a 1.22 WHIP.
Brewers Looking to Finish Series Strong
As they aim to close out the series on a positive note, the Brewers will send Frankie Montas to the mound in Thursday’s finale against the Giants. The Giants will counter with Hayden Birdsong, and Milwaukee hopes to break out of their recent slump and regain momentum as the season progresses.
