The Pittsburgh Steelers have confirmed the signing of an experienced player to reinforce their offensive line, following the recent injury concerns surrounding starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. Moore suffered an ankle injury during the team’s victory over the Atlanta Falcons, which head coach Mike Tomlin mentioned on Tuesday. The exact timing of the injury is unclear, but swelling became an issue post-game, and Moore is expected to be limited early in the week.
Should Moore be unable to play, the Steelers are expected to reshuffle their offensive line, moving current right tackle Broderick Jones to left tackle and inserting rookie Troy Fautanu, their first-round draft pick, at right tackle. Fautanu, who had suffered an MCL sprain during the team’s preseason game against the Houston Texans, is now healthy and ready to contribute.
Moore was credited with allowing two pressures during the Falcons game, according to Pro Football Focus. While Jones also allowed two pressures, he was responsible for both sacks during the contest. Coach Tomlin acknowledged that Fautanu’s talent deserves to be highlighted, and the team will begin increasing his workload in practice. If Moore is unavailable for the upcoming game against the Denver Broncos, Fautanu could make his first career start against a formidable Broncos pass-rush unit.
Aside from Moore’s injury, punter Cameron Johnston has been ruled out for the season, and cornerback Darius Rush remains in the concussion protocol following Sunday’s game.
