The Boston Bruins have officially announced the signing of veteran forward Tyler Johnson to a professional tryout (PTO) contract. Johnson, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, will join the team for training camp next month, aiming to earn a guaranteed contract for the 2024-25 season by participating in preseason games.
In a statement posted on their website, the Bruins shared, “Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, August 31, that the team has signed forward Tyler Johnson to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO).”
The 34-year-old forward spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks after being traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021. Last season, Johnson played 67 games for the Blackhawks, tallying 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists), 26 penalty minutes, and a minus-35 rating.
As the Bruins aim to stay competitive in the tough Atlantic Division, bringing in Johnson adds valuable depth to the roster. If he secures a contract, Johnson is expected to play a bottom-six role and contribute in over 60 games during the 2024-25 season.
