The Florida Panthers have signed forward Matt Luff to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) ahead of the 2024-25 season. Luff, who spent the 2023-24 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, recorded 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points in 26 games last year.
Luff’s most recent NHL stint was during the 2022-23 season with the Red Wings, where he notched 4 points in 19 games before a wrist injury required surgery, cutting his season short. The Oakville native entered the NHL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Los Angeles Kings in 2016 following a standout performance at rookie camp. In his debut season (2018-19), he scored 8 goals and 3 assists in 33 games with the Kings.
Over his five NHL seasons, Luff has also played for the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings, accumulating 15 goals and 27 points in 106 games. In the AHL, he has been a consistent performer, amassing 67 goals and 96 assists for 163 points across 223 games with the Ontario Reign, Milwaukee Admirals, and Grand Rapids Griffins.

Before turning pro, Luff had an impressive junior career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he played three seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs, posting 61 goals and 137 points in 170 games.
By joining the reigning Stanley Cup champions on a PTO, Luff will look to earn a spot on the Panthers’ roster for the upcoming season. He joins a roster bolstered by free-agent signings like Nate Schmidt, A.J. Greer, Tomas Nosek, and brothers Jesper and Adam Boqvist as Florida gears up for the 2024-25 campaign.
