FSU football took another hit to its 2025 recruiting class as four-star defensive end Javion Hilson announced his decision to de-commit from the program. This marks the second high-profile de-commitment in just two days, leaving fans and analysts questioning the direction of the team.
Hilson, who had been one of the top defensive prospects committed to FSU, shared the news on his social media account. His decision comes after the Seminoles’ 0-2 start to the 2024 season, a disappointing stretch that seems to have influenced his choice. The announcement follows on the heels of four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles flipping his commitment to the Texas Longhorns just a day earlier. Both players were key recruits in areas where FSU has struggled to build depth.
The loss of Hilson further depletes FSU’s already thin defensive line commitments, leaving only four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn as the lone defensive lineman still pledged to the Seminoles. With no defensive ends committed and the Early Signing Period just three months away, the pressure on FSU to stabilize its recruiting class has never been higher.
Currently, the de-commitments drop FSU’s 2025 class to 11 recruits and rank the program 34th overall nationally. As the Seminoles prepare to face the Memphis Tigers next week, further on-field struggles could lead to even more recruits reconsidering their commitments.

While Hilson hasn’t completely ruled out FSU, stating that his final decision will come in December, the likelihood of him returning to the Seminoles seems slim. Hilson was initially committed to Alabama before Nick Saban’s retirement, and speculation is swirling that he may end up with another SEC powerhouse.
With the recent recruiting setbacks and the team’s poor start to the season, FSU might be facing a full-scale rebuild under head coach Mike Norvell if they can’t turn things around soon. The program is at a crossroads, and retaining their top recruits will be critical to maintaining any momentum.
