Sam Turner, a highly-touted 4-star wide receiver, has committed to Auburn football, choosing the Tigers over Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas. Turner, who had been a Georgia Tech commit, visited Auburn during Big Cat Weekend and has been keeping a close eye on the program ever since.
His most recent visit to Auburn came during the team’s 21-14 loss to Cal, a game that left Turner and many fans inside Jordan-Hare Stadium frustrated. Auburn’s offense struggled, managing only 165 passing yards, four interceptions, and a fumble, resulting in five turnovers and a total of just 286 yards.
“Yeah, it’s a tough game,” Turner admitted. “But you know, it’s a new — I’m lost for words right now. It was hard seeing that. The quarterback — at least pull him out. It’s early in the season, mistakes happen, they can shake it off.”
Despite the offensive struggles, Turner was impressed with the atmosphere at Auburn. “The atmosphere was amazing. That was my first time being in the stadium for this game, and I loved it. We’ve just got to win the ballgame, that’s all,” he added.
Turner’s commitment provides a much-needed boost to Auburn’s recruiting efforts as they look to rebuild under head coach Hugh Freeze.
