The Tampa Bay Lightning have officially announced the signing of 24-year-old defenseman Max Crozier ahead of the 2024-25 season, solidifying their roster with young talent. Crozier, who played 13 games for the Lightning in the 2023-24 season, will look to make a bigger impact this year as the team continues its push for playoff contention.
Max Crozier’s 2023-24 Performance
Last season, Crozier demonstrated his potential both in the NHL and the AHL. He recorded two assists in his 13 NHL appearances, which translates to roughly 12 points over a full 82-game season. He also contributed in high-stakes situations, appearing in three playoff games for the Lightning.
In the AHL, Crozier had a solid season with the Syracuse Crunch, notching four goals and 17 assists for 21 points in 49 games. Over a full NHL season, that would equate to six goals and 28 assists—impressive numbers for a developing defenseman. He continued his strong performance in the Calder Cup Playoffs, adding four points in six games.
While his offensive stats are notable, Crozier also made an impact defensively. He recorded 11 blocked shots and 16 hits in his brief NHL stint, along with a plus-3 defensive zone turnover differential. These defensive metrics suggest that Crozier is effective on the backcheck and capable of setting up his team for offensive opportunities.
Expectations for Crozier in 2024-25
Heading into the 2024-25 season, Crozier will compete for a spot on a crowded Lightning defensive unit that includes veterans like Victor Hedman, Ryan McDonagh, and Erik Cernak, as well as established players Darren Raddysh and Nick Perbix. Although Crozier may start the season in the AHL with Syracuse, it’s likely he’ll see more NHL ice time as injuries, underperformance, or rest days open up opportunities.
The Lightning have shown faith in Crozier’s development by inviting him to prospect camp, and with his entry-level contract still active, the team has flexibility in moving him between the AHL and NHL. He’s expected to be a key depth player, ready to step in when needed.

Crozier represents the youthful talent the Lightning have been cultivating as part of their offseason plan to get younger and maintain their competitive edge. With the departure of Mikhail Sergachev and the addition of JJ Moser, Tampa Bay’s defensive core is undergoing a transformation.
