Sad News: Head Coach Jim Montgomery Face Major Setback as the Bruins’ $49 Million Experienced Player Out of the Starting Roster Due to…

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand, entering the final year of his eight-year, $49 million contract, revealed at the team’s first preseason practice that he underwent three significant surgeries during the offseason. These procedures included surgery for a torn tendon in his elbow, as well as groin and hernia repairs.

With training camp starting on September 18, Marchand’s readiness for the new season remains uncertain.

“My goal is to be ready for camp,” Marchand shared with reporters. “If not, then very shortly after. I’m just now getting back into the swing of things.”

Marchand mentioned that he resumed his usual offseason training only two weeks ago—a challenging recovery timeline given the extent of his surgeries and the fact that he’s now 36 years old. Despite the setback, Marchand expressed optimism about his strength and progress but acknowledged the uphill battle.

“This summer is not what I’m used to,” he admitted. “It might take until the season or a little bit into it, but I’ll treat the next two months like summer—train and skate the way I normally would.”

Brad Marchand named next captain of the Boston Bruins

Despite playing through these injuries last season, Marchand still delivered for the Bruins, scoring 29 goals and adding 38 assists. For now, however, his focus is on solo sessions and gym work as he continues his recovery.

Head Coach Jim Montgomery and the Bruins now face the challenge of adjusting their roster while hoping for their captain’s timely return.
