The Milwaukee Brewers missed their chance to sweep the Cincinnati Reds, falling 4-3 in extra innings during the series finale on Sunday. After leading 3-2 in the fifth inning, the Brewers allowed the Reds to tie the game, and Milwaukee’s offense went cold, going hitless in their next 21 at-bats.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy expressed frustration with the team’s offensive struggles, particularly during the game’s crucial moments.
“You can’t shut it down like that,” Murphy said. “There were a few hard-hit balls, but watching those 21 at-bats was hard. It’s disappointing in so many ways. We just need to focus on what we could have done better today.”
The Brewers also went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position, missing several opportunities to regain the lead.
Jackson Chourio had a rough outing, going 0-for-5, while Blake Perkins and William Contreras combined for an 0-for-9 performance with two strikeouts.
Despite the loss, Milwaukee aims to bounce back quickly as they open a new series Monday night at home against the St. Louis Cardinals. Freddy Peralta, with a 9-7 record and a 3.70 ERA, will take the mound for the Brewers in Game 1, looking to help his team rebound from their recent offensive struggles.
