As Major League Baseball’s roster expansion takes effect today, Chicago Cubs Manager Craig Counsell has announced the addition of two experienced players to the team’s active roster. This move aligns with MLB’s September roster rules, where teams can expand their rosters from 26 to 28 players.
Key Additions:
Jordan Wicks: The Cubs have activated left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks from the 60-day injured list. Wicks, who has been recovering from an injury, will immediately step into action, starting in today’s game against the Washington Nationals. While on the injured list, Wicks was not counted against the 40-man roster limit. The Cubs have yet to announce the corresponding roster move required to accommodate Wicks’ return.
Miles Mastrobuoni: Additionally, infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa. Mastrobuoni, who has appeared in 43 games for the Cubs this season, posting a .200/.255/.233 slash line, will likely serve as a pinch-runner and defensive substitute. His experience and versatility will be valuable assets as the Cubs push through the final stretch of the season.
Nick Madrigal has been recalled and subsequently placed on the 60-day IL with a left pinky fracture to make room on the 40-man roster.
