Good News: Broncos Officially Announced the Signing of an Experienced Offensive Weapon to Practice Squad…

The Denver Broncos are set to bolster their offensive line depth by signing Calvin Throckmorton to their practice squad. The move will become official once Throckmorton clears waivers today. His familiarity with head coach Sean Payton’s system from their time together with the New Orleans Saints likely played a significant role in bringing him to Denver.

The recent injury to Quinn Bailey has left a noticeable gap in the Broncos’ offensive line depth, making Throckmorton’s addition even more critical. While the team has largely avoided major injuries since moving on from former strength coach Loren Landow, the unfortunate reality of football means that depth is always necessary.

Throckmorton’s experience and versatility make him a valuable asset. Our own Ross Allen previously analyzed his fit with the 2024 Broncos, highlighting Throckmorton’s 32 snaps as a sixth offensive lineman in Payton’s offense with the Saints. With Bailey sidelined, Throckmorton could be in line to fill that crucial role for Denver.

Though he played tackle throughout most of his college career, Throckmorton transitioned to guard in the NFL due to concerns about his ability to handle the speed of edge rushers. The transition has been smooth, and he has performed well on the interior offensive line. Known for his intelligence and ability to handle strength moves from defensive linemen, Throckmorton has nearly 2,000 total snaps over 49 starts under his belt.

While his extensive experience might be why he initially landed on the practice squad rather than the 53-man roster, Throckmorton’s presence provides the Broncos with a seasoned veteran who could quickly see increased playing time. As he adapts to his new surroundings, Throckmorton will be in a strong position to compete for a spot on the active roster, especially as the team looks to reinforce its offensive line depth.
