The Golden State Warriors are nearly done with their offseason preparations, having bolstered their roster with key signings to pursue another championship. Despite losing Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks, the Warriors successfully brought in Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson through free agency, adding crucial depth around Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. With one roster spot left to fill, the Warriors have invited several veterans for workouts, including experienced Brazilian star Bruno Caboclo.
Caboclo, who is also considering an offer from Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv in Israel, has been training with the Warriors this week, aiming to secure a return to the NBA, according to a report by Sports Channel in Israel. His agent, Daniel Hazan, has confirmed that Caboclo will continue working out with Golden State until Thursday, with hopes of landing a contract.
Drafted 20th overall by the Toronto Raptors in the 2014 NBA Draft, Caboclo spent his NBA career from the 2014-15 season through 2020-21, playing for multiple teams before transitioning to the NBA G League, and subsequently playing in Brazil and Serbia. This summer, Caboclo represented Brazil at the Paris Olympics, where he stood out as the leader of the national team. He averaged 17.3 points and seven rebounds per game, shooting an impressive 60.5% from the field and 54.5% from three-point range over four games.
Despite Brazil finishing with a 1-3 record and being eliminated by the United States in the quarterfinals, Caboclo showcased his talent, notably scoring 30 points and grabbing six rebounds against Team USA. Standing at 6-foot-9, Caboclo remains confident in his ability to compete at the NBA level, and the Warriors could be an ideal landing spot for him. With a need for experienced depth in their frontcourt, the Warriors also have Gui Santos, another Brazilian national team player, on their roster. The close relationship between Santos and Caboclo may have played a role in Golden State’s decision to invite Caboclo for a workout, possibly paving the way for him to secure a spot on the team during training camp next month.
