Breaking: Bruins GM Provides Update on Jeremy Swayman’s Contract Negotiations Amid Contract Dispute…

As the NHL offseason nears its end, the Boston Bruins still face uncertainty in their goaltending situation for the 2024-25 season. Star goaltender Jeremy Swayman remains unsigned as a restricted free agent, with contract negotiations dragging on throughout the summer. With training camp just around the corner in September, the Bruins have yet to secure their No. 1 goalie.

On August 22, Bruins General Manager Cam Neely addressed the ongoing contract talks during an appearance on WZLX’s The Rich Shertenlieb Show. While Neely provided some reassurance, he also admitted that the situation is still unresolved.

“Something will get done. There’s no question,” Neely said. “Not every negotiation is as smooth as you’d like it to be. I know our fan base would certainly love to have something done by now. But I’m fully confident that both sides will come to an agreement before too long here.”

Swayman, who delivered an impressive regular season with a 25-10-8 record, a .916 save percentage, and a 2.53 GAA across 44 games, further solidified his value with a standout postseason performance. He led all goaltenders with a .933 save percentage and a 2.15 GAA, underscoring his importance to the Bruins’ future.

The Bruins aim to lock Swayman into a long-term deal that will secure his services through his prime years. With $8.6 million in salary cap space, according to PuckPedia, the team appears to have the necessary financial flexibility to finalize the contract.

Despite the prolonged negotiations, Neely’s confidence suggests that progress is being made and that an agreement with Swayman is likely to be reached before the start of the season.
