Done Deal: Just In Pelicans Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Talented Superstar to Bolster Willie Green’s Roster…

The New Orleans Pelicans have officially strengthened their roster by signing versatile guard/forward Javonte Green, as they gear up for the upcoming season. This move, initially reported by NBA insider Shams Charania, adds valuable veteran depth to the Pelicans’ wing rotation.

Green, who previously played for the Chicago Bulls, brings a well-rounded skill set to New Orleans. He showcased his shooting ability with the Bulls, boasting an impressive 60.0% field goal percentage and 37.0% accuracy from beyond the arc. Despite a limited sample size last season, Green achieved career highs in several key areas, including scoring, rebounding, steals (1.1), and blocked shots (0.9).

During his nine appearances for the Bulls last season, Green averaged 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game. His performance was even more impressive in his five starts, where he increased his output to 14.0 points and 8.6 rebounds in 29.3 minutes per game. Additionally, Green contributed significantly during his time with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League, averaging 12.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals across 10 games.

Before joining the NBA, Green had a standout college career at Radford University, where he averaged 14.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks over 133 games (122 starts). His professional journey has seen him play pivotal roles in both the regular season and postseason, including stints with the Boston Celtics in 2020 and the Bulls in 2022.

At 31, Green is now one of the more experienced players on a relatively young Pelicans roster, joining veterans like CJ McCollum and Daniel Theis. Over his 195-game NBA career, Green has averaged 5.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.7 assists, while shooting a solid 34.5% from three-point range.

Though slightly undersized for a wing at 6’5″, Green compensates with his tenacity on defense, often disrupting opponents with his strong steal and block rates. His presence helps fill the void left by Naji Marshall, who recently joined the Dallas Mavericks. If Green can maintain his defensive intensity and continue his efficient shooting, he could become a reliable low-usage, high-efficiency role player for the Pelicans, capable of stepping into the starting lineup when needed.
