Good News: Dodgers’ Officially Announced the Addition of Two Experienced Veteran Stars to Bolster Dave Roberts’s Roster…

T he Los Angeles Dodgers have officially confirmed the addition of two highly anticipated veteran players: center fielder/shortstop Tmmy Edman ommy Edman and third baseman Max Muncy, bolstering the team as they prepare for the crucial series opener against the Seattle Mariners.

To make room for these key reinforcements, it appears that Nick Ahmed and Andy Pages will be the ones to step aside. According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, both players cleared out their lockers ahead of Monday’s game.

With Edman and Muncy coming off the 60-day injured list, the Dodgers needed to adjust their 40-man and 26-man rosters to accommodate these stars.

Nick Ahmed, a seasoned player without minor league options, is likely to be designated for assignment. After joining the Dodgers as a free agent in July, Ahmed contributed in 17 games, batting .229 with one home run and two RBIs, while also providing reliable defense at shortstop.

Andy Pages, a promising 23-year-old rookie, has shown flashes of potential with a .246 batting average, nine home runs, and 36 RBIs. Though he has had moments of stabilizing the Dodgers’ lineup and outfield, he has also faced the challenges typical of a rookie season, including defensive struggles in center field and periods of inconsistency at the plate.

Overall, Pages has posted a .246/.305/.388 slash line with nine home runs and 36 RBIs, appearing in all three outfield positions as well as serving as designated hitter.

The acquisition of Tommy Edman from the Cardinals, with plans for him to take over center field duties, signaled a shift for the Dodgers. Edman, 29, is a career .265/.319/.408 hitter and a Gold Glove winner. He has been recovering from wrist surgery that sidelined him for the entire first half of the season.

During his minor league rehab assignments with both the Cardinals’ and Dodgers’ affiliates, Edman hit .239 with one home run and a stolen base, playing across Double-A and Triple-A.

Max Muncy, 33, has been out of action since May due to an oblique injury. The Dodgers have struggled to replicate his offensive production at third base in his absence.

Since 2018, Muncy has consistently hit at least 20 home runs in every non-pandemic season. Before his injury, he had already tallied nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 40 games, providing a critical boost to a Dodgers lineup that has had difficulty generating offense from the middle and lower parts of the order.
