Despite his contributions, Champagnie’s role on the team is now in jeopardy. With the Spurs adding more firepower to their roster, his chances of securing playing time have diminished. The drafting of Harrison Ingram and the recent signing of Brandon Boston Jr. (with his roster spot still to be determined) further complicate matters for Champagnie. All three players will be competing for the backup small forward role behind Devin Vassell, but Ingram and Boston Jr.’s superior athleticism give them an edge.
For Champagnie, standing out when given the opportunity will be crucial. Although Keldon Johnson and Zach Collins are likely the first two bench options moving forward, Champagnie’s consistency could push him into a more significant role. Nevertheless, he faces one of the toughest challenges on the team, making this season a pivotal one for his future in San Antonio.
