In a recent episode of “Dubs Talk,” hosts Monte Poole and Dalton Johnson discussed the incredible impact of Stephen Curry’s performance during the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Golden State Warriors’ superstar guard led Team USA to victory, and his precision shooting left fans and teammates in awe.
Curry, a 10-time NBA All-Star, was on fire during the final stages of the tournament, but what’s even more impressive is that he predicted his own breakout performance. His Golden State teammate, Brandin Podziemski, shared the behind-the-scenes story during an interview with 95.7 The Game’s “Willard and Dibs.”
Podziemski, 21, revealed that Curry had a conversation with him and some friends while they were in Paris, just before Team USA’s semifinal and gold-medal games. At that time, Curry was in a bit of a slump, struggling to find his rhythm. But, as Podziemski recalled, Curry confidently predicted a turnaround.
“It was at the time when Steph was struggling and not making as much, so we were just kind of talking about it and what his thoughts were,” Podziemski said. “He told me and my friends actually, crazy, that he’s going to go off in the next two games. And that was against Serbia and France. He told us, and he did it.” (h/t ClutchPoints)
Curry’s words proved prophetic. When the Curry family arrived in Paris and the pressure was at its peak, the four-time NBA champion delivered on his promise. In the semifinal against Serbia, Curry exploded for 36 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, shooting 12 of 19 from the field and an impressive 9 of 14 from beyond the arc.
He followed up this performance in the gold-medal game against France, where he scored 24 points, dished out five assists, and grabbed one rebound. Remarkably, all his points came from three-pointers, as he went 8 for 13 from the perimeter, including a legendary shot now dubbed the “golden dagger.”
Curry not only secured the gold medal for Team USA, marking their fifth consecutive Olympic victory, but also finished as the tournament’s leading scorer. His ability to foresee and then execute such a dominant performance is a testament to his greatness, leaving fans and teammates like Podziemski in awe.
Talk about calling your shot.
