Breaking: Toronto Maple Leafs  Have Finally Completed a blockbuster Trade for Fans Favourite…

In a major shake-up, the Toronto Maple Leafs have executed a blockbuster trade involving star forward Mitch Marner. Marner, who is in the final year of his six-year, $65.41 million contract, has been a frequent subject of trade speculation.

According to a recent proposal from PuckPedia’s new trade tool, PuckGM, the deal would see Marner heading to the New York Islanders. In exchange, the Maple Leafs would receive Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock.

Proposed Trade Details:

Toronto Maple Leafs Receive:

  • Brock Nelson
  • Ryan Pulock

New York Islanders Receive:

  • Mitch Marner
  • Timothy Liljegren
  • 2026 Third-Round Pick

The trade would significantly impact both teams. Toronto would part ways with Marner and defenseman Timothy Liljegren, along with a 2026 third-round pick, in exchange for Nelson and Pulock. While Nelson may not match Marner’s offensive prowess, Pulock is seen as a defensive upgrade over Liljegren, enhancing Toronto’s blue line. Nelson is also in the final year of his six-year, $36 million contract, while Pulock is in the third year of a $49.2 million deal.

For Toronto, the deal represents a chance to move on from Marner’s contract while bolstering their defense. On the other hand, New York would trade a defensive asset to acquire Marner, aiming to strengthen their offense. Liljegren’s addition could help offset the loss of Pulock.

Nelson as a Trade Candidate

NHL insider Arthur Staple from The Athletic has previously mentioned Nelson as a potential trade candidate. In his August 1 mailbag column, Staple noted that if the Islanders are not in a playoff position by the trade deadline, Nelson could be moved for a significant return.

“Nelson’s future may hinge on the team’s performance this season. If the Islanders are in playoff contention, Lamoriello might add to the roster at the deadline. Conversely, if the team is struggling, Nelson could become a prime trade asset,” Staple wrote.

Nelson has been with the Islanders since being drafted 30th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, amassing 275 goals and 256 assists in 840 NHL games.

Marner’s Desire to Stay

Despite the trade buzz, Marner has expressed his desire to remain with the Maple Leafs. Following Toronto’s early exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs, Marner reaffirmed his commitment to the team and his love for the city.

“That’d be a goal. I’ve expressed my love for this place, this city. Obviously, I’ve grown up here. We’ll start thinking about that now and trying to figure something out… It means the world to me,” Marner stated on May 6.

Marner has played 576 games for the Leafs, accumulating 194 goals and 445 assists for 639 points.
