New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe had to leave Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels after sustaining a bruised left foot. The injury occurred in the second inning when Volpe fouled a ball off his foot.
He remained in the game despite the pain and the challenging rainy conditions, but after five more innings, he was replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera in the eighth inning. At that point, the Angels had already established a commanding 9-1 lead and went on to win the game 9-4.
Following the game, the Yankees announced that Volpe was evaluated by the team’s head physician, Dr. Christopher Ahmad. Fortunately, X-rays on his foot came back negative, providing some relief for the Yankees and their fans.
