Official Nets Updates: Brooklyn Nets Finally Announced the Signing of the the 214 Million Superstar to Boost Jordi Fernández’s Roster…

The Brooklyn Nets were close to securing one of the top remaining free agents but couldn’t finalize the financials.

A trade that would have sent Cleveland Cavaliers’ wingman Isaac Okoro to the Brooklyn Nets fell through, according to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer.

On his “Ball Don’t Lie” podcast, Fischer mentioned that the proposed deal would have traded the 23-year-old forward to Brooklyn for Dorian Finney-Smith.

“I know there was some reporting about a Nets package idea where [Okoro] would go to Brooklyn, and there’d be something with Dorian Finney-Smith going back,” Fischer said. “I don’t think those talks got substantial. I don’t think it can even happen now after the salary stuff has all shifted out.”

Fischer believes the Nets lacked the cap space to make a trade for Okoro, citing financial constraints as the main reason for the deal’s failure.

“I don’t think Brooklyn has the room to make that happen,” Fischer stated. “Bringing back Dorian’s $14 million would be challenging with the first apron stuff that we’re talking about with Cleveland in general.”

Isaac Okoro on the Move?

Okoro, who has spent his career with the Cavaliers, is still a restricted free agent and has yet to reach a deal with them.

Last season, Okoro averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists, shooting 49.0 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three-point range. In the right situation, he could be a solid floor spacer and perimeter defender for a potential contender with the financial flexibility to sign him.

The Brooklyn Nets are currently $25 million over the cap for the 2024-25 season, making it challenging for Nets GM Sean Marks to execute a trade for Okoro.

The Nets initiated their rebuild early in the off-season by trading Mikal Bridges. They appear to be aiming to tank next season in hopes of landing the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
