Official Saints Updates: Dennis Allen Confirmed Big Boost as Saints Announced the Signing of Another High-Ranked Star from Top Contenders…

The New Orleans Saints have announced the signing of former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Marquez Callaway, who was released by the Steelers on Tuesday.

The Steelers released Callaway and veteran cornerback Josiah Scott, allowing both players to seek new opportunities. This move, a common practice for Pittsburgh, helps veterans find new teams.

For Callaway, this move is a return to familiar territory. He initially joined the Saints in 2020 as an undrafted free agent and remained with the team until 2022. After bouncing around in 2023, Callaway finished the season with the Saints and now finds himself back in New Orleans.

To fill the gap left by Callaway, the Steelers signed wide receiver Tarik Black, especially in light of Roman Wilson’s ankle injury. Pittsburgh continues to search for strong performers at the wide receiver position, though offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is optimistic about the current roster.

“Yeah, I think that group as a whole is progressing well,” Smith said. “George [Pickens] has shown significant improvement every day. I was excited to see him make that play at the end of the two-minute drive. George is a very instinctive player, and I enjoy working with him. He’s a key part of our offense. We also have mature veterans and tough-minded players like Van [Jefferson], Dez [Fitzpatrick], Quez [Watkins], and Scotty [Miller]. Calvin [Austin III] has also had a strong spring and camp.”

Callaway will be looking to secure a spot in the Saints’ wide receiver corps, where there is a need further down the depth chart. This opportunity allows Callaway to re-establish himself in a familiar environment and make an impact once again.
