Latest Mavs Updates: Dallas Mavericks Officially Announce Return of the 31-year-old Point-Guard to a Deal Worth…

The Dallas Mavericks have quietly had one of the most impressive offseasons in the NBA this summer. It all began with signing Naji Marshall and trading for Quentin Grimes, moves that added much-needed shooting and defense. However, the highlight of their offseason was the sign-and-trade for Klay Thompson, securing a third star to join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

While these acquisitions have the potential to elevate Dallas to new heights, one recent signing hasn’t received the attention it deserves.

Mavericks Officially Sign Spencer Dinwiddie to One-Year Contract

Last week, the Mavericks reportedly signed Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal, and the signing was made official by Mavs PR on Saturday.

During the previous season with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers, Dinwiddie averaged 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the field. Although it wasn’t his most efficient season, Dinwiddie’s defensive performance in Los Angeles was among the best of his career, and he is expected to bring that same defensive intensity to Dallas.

Fans are thrilled to see Dinwiddie back in Dallas due to his contributions during his first stint with the team. He is expected to play significant minutes early on. Dinwiddie was an excellent complementary scorer alongside Luka Doncic during the 2022 NBA Playoffs, and his ability to elevate his game in clutch moments was a joy to watch.

The Mavericks needed more experience to complement their young roster, and signing someone like Dinwiddie, who is already familiar with Jason Kidd’s system and the organization’s operations, was a smart move by Nico Harrison and his team.

Dinwiddie can mentor younger guards like Jaden Hardy while serving as a versatile rotation piece capable of playing on and off the ball. He can also be used as a spot starter when needed. His on-court fit with Doncic didn’t get enough attention during his first stint with the Mavericks, but his reliability off the bench could significantly elevate the team’s ceiling.
