Breaking News: GM Brian Wright Makes Bold Bold Statement as He Addresses Spurs’ Contract for the OVC Player of the Year …

The San Antonio Spurs are leveraging every tool at their disposal to scout and secure talent.

During the San Antonio Spurs Summer League, several players impressed, including Riley Minix, the 2023-24 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Player of the Year from Morehead State University. Minix had an outstanding season, averaging 20.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, with 18 double-doubles.

The Spurs signed Minix in the offseason, and he continued to shine during the Summer League, averaging 12 points per game on 44.8% shooting and an impressive 50% from three-point range.

Understanding the Exhibit 10 Contract

The Spurs signed Minix to an Exhibit 10 contract, a one-year deal for the league minimum, introduced in the 2017 collective bargaining agreement. These contracts can include bonuses of up to $75,000 for the 2023-24 season, serving as incentives for players to remain with the organization, either in a G League role or with the main team.

If a player leaves the contract before 60 days and signs with another team or league, they forfeit any agreed bonuses. Another advantage of Exhibit 10 contracts is their potential conversion to two-way contracts before the season starts. Although the Spurs have already signed three players to two-way deals, changes could occur before opening night.

These contracts don’t count against the salary cap during the offseason. Teams must decide on the player’s status before the season begins because if the player remains on the roster into the regular season, the contract counts against the cap, essentially becoming a one-year minimum salary deal. Effective use of these contracts can provide long-term benefits for San Antonio.
