With the July 30 MLB trade deadline fast approaching, several significant moves have already occurred, including the trades of multiple All-Stars. However, the Atlanta Braves have yet to make any deals. The same applies to the last-place Chicago White Sox, who are anticipated to be major sellers this trade season.
It now appears that these two teams are nearing a trade agreement.
Could Luis Robert or Garrett Crochet be heading to the Atlanta Braves?
The Braves currently trail the New York Mets by 9.5 games for the NL East division lead. Despite this, they are in a strong position for the top NL Wild Card spot, holding a narrow half-game lead. This situation makes the Braves likely buyers at the trade deadline, and we are beginning to see their strategy unfold.
MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that the Chicago White Sox and the Braves have been engaged in trade talks. However, the specific players being considered remain unclear.
“Braves and White Sox have been in communication. Uncertain what the focus is but Luis Robert would surely fit ATL (if they were willing to spend — that’s a big if!) Crochet, Fedde, Pham also may be of interest to injury-depleted but still contending Braves,” Heyman shared.
Luis Robert trade rumors have persisted throughout the season, though many insiders doubt he will be traded during what has been a down year for him. Ideally, the White Sox would prefer to trade him when his value is at its peak. However, a strong enough offer from the Braves could change their minds.
Garrett Crochet has also been linked to various teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yet, there is a risk involved with Crochet, who has pitched more innings this season than ever before. Additionally, there is speculation that Crochet may refuse to pitch in the playoffs unless he secures a contract extension first.
The Braves might also be considering acquiring other players such as pitcher Erick Fedde or slugger Tommy Pham. Whether these trade deadline ambitions become a reality will be seen soon enough.
