In a significant recruiting victory, the Florida State Seminoles have successfully earned the commitment of 4-star wide receiver Malik Clark, a native of Rock Hill. Clark’s decision came as a surprise, as many expected him to choose the in-state South Carolina Gamecocks. This commitment is a major boost for the Seminoles, who managed to outmaneuver two of their top rivals.
Despite missing out on Clark, the South Carolina football program has not been idle. They have secured commitments from three wide receivers for the class of 2025: Jayden Sellers, Brian Rowe, and Lex Cyrus. Additionally, the Gamecocks have made another key acquisition.
According to a report by Phil Kornblut of SportsTalk, Miami Dade College receiver Ruben Jackson will be joining the University of South Carolina this fall. Jackson, a Florida native, will join the team as a walk-on wide receiver. His football journey began at Mississippi State, followed by stints at Georgia Military College and Miami Dade, where he completed his academic requirements.
Jackson, a 2020 graduate of Glades Central High School, was once rated as a 3-star prospect. Despite his long tenure in college football, he still has up to two years of eligibility remaining, thanks to a redshirt year in 2021 and an additional “Covid redshirt” year in 2020.
Known for his quickness, Jackson plays as a slot receiver and is expected to add depth to a Gamecocks wide receiver unit that experienced significant turnover this offseason. The team lost six players to the transfer portal, including Juice Wells, Landon Samson, Zavier Short, Kylic Horton, O’Mega Blake, and Kelton Henderson, as well as several others to graduation or the NFL, such as Xavier Legette, Ahmarean Brown, and Eddie Lewis.
With Jackson’s addition, the Gamecocks hope to reinforce their receiving corps and maintain a competitive edge as they prepare for the upcoming season.
