While Boston Bruins fans eagerly await news of a contract agreement with goaltender Jeremy Swayman, the young netminder took a moment to surprise a group of young hockey players in Maine.

Swayman made a virtual appearance at the University of Maine’s annual ice hockey Youth Summer Camps on Wednesday, where he received a warm welcome from the young players, who chanted, “Swayman!”

The 25-year-old Alaskan native smiled widely and responded, “Love it,” to the crowd of children. He later shared the moment on his Instagram story.

Before turning pro, Swayman played three years in net for the Black Bears, finishing his college career as Maine’s all-time leader with 3,130 saves. He posted a 2.51 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in 100 games, achieving a 47-40-12 overall record. In his final season, Swayman received the Mike Richter Award as the top NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey goalie of the year.

Swayman joined the Bruins by signing a three-year, entry-level contract with Boston on March 18, 2020.

In his first season with the Bruins, Swayman recorded a .945 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average in 10 games. Together with former Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark, Swayman formed one of the best tandems in the NHL during the 2021-22 season.

Swayman solidified his role as the Bruins’ No. 1 goaltender after posting a 2.15 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage in 12 postseason games, following a Centennial season where he achieved a 2.53 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.
