The 2025 Duke basketball wishlist currently lacks a listed center, but that may soon change.
Khaman Maluach, a 7-foot-2 freshman from South Sudan, exemplifies head coach Jon Scheyer’s willingness to recruit talent from outside the United States to strengthen Duke’s paint presence.
On Wednesday, Duke’s coaching staff attended the NCAA Academy in Rock Hill, S.C., to scout Senegalese center Mouhammed Sylla, one of the event’s standout players.
According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, at least one Duke assistant coach was there to watch the 6-foot-10, 240-pound four-star prospect. Sylla, who attends NBA Academy Latin America, is ranked No. 40 overall in the 2025 class by On3. Despite his high ranking, he has not yet received any offers from college coaches.

However, with prominent programs such as UConn, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Florida State also in attendance, Sylla is likely to attract considerable interest from various schools in the near future.
Duke’s 2025 recruiting efforts have yet to result in a commitment, but the team’s offer list includes four top-tier power forwards, although no dedicated centers as of now.
