Breaking News: Josh Heupel Reveal Key Area to Improve that will Make Vols Better In 2024 Season…

The Tennessee Volunteers haven’t heavily relied on the Transfer Portal compared to some programs since the NCAA introduced immediate eligibility for transfers. However, head coach Josh Heupel added nine transfers to the roster this offseason, the most since his first year in Knoxville. For context, Heupel has taken in just 36 transfers as a head coach, whereas Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss took 24 transfers this class alone.

When Heupel and the Tennessee staff do explore the portal, they aim for immediate results. Here are three transfers expected to make a significant impact this fall:

OT, Lance Heard

Lance Heard joins the Vols after missing out on a starting opportunity at LSU, where he was behind Emory Jones and Will Campbell, both projected first-round NFL Draft picks. Heard is now set to start for Tennessee and will be crucial in protecting first-year starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava on the left side.

WR, Chris Brazzell

The Volunteers boast a roster full of offensive weapons, but none quite like Chris Brazzell. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 200 pounds, Brazzell averaged over 16 yards per reception last year, making him a big-play threat. In Tennessee’s vertical offense, his ability to stretch the field and win contested catches will be invaluable.

CB, Jermod McCoy

Jermod McCoy is expected to be a key addition to the Vols’ defense. While sophomore Rickey Gibson made a strong impact as a true freshman last year, Tennessee will rely on McCoy or another cornerback transfer to solidify the secondary. McCoy’s performance will be crucial for the Vols as they aim to strengthen their defense.

These transfers are poised to provide the immediate impact that Tennessee needs to elevate their performance in the 2024 season.
