The Dallas Mavericks may not be done making noise this offseason. Having already made significant moves since the end of the 2023-24 NBA season by adding Klay Thompson, Quentin Grimes, and Naji Marshall, the Mavs appear to be eyeing a familiar face: Spencer Dinwiddie.
“Dallas could elect to keep the spot open in the short-term, but league sources say that the Mavericks do hold an interest in re-signing Spencer Dinwiddie.”
Dinwiddie is no stranger to Dallas basketball. He spent parts of two seasons with the Mavericks from 2022 to 2023. He was traded by the Washington Wizards to the Mavs in February 2022, along with Davis Bertans, in the deal that landed Kristaps Porzingis in Washington. In February 2023, Dinwiddie was traded by the Mavericks to the Brooklyn Nets along with Dorian Finney-Smith and some picks for Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris.
During his 76 games with the Mavericks, including 60 starts, Dinwiddie averaged 17.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from beyond the arc.
As it stands, the Mavericks are still $13 million under the second tax apron and around $2.5 million below the first tax apron.
If Dallas does bring Dinwiddie back, their backcourt will become even more crowded and deeper, with players like Dante Exum and Jaden Hardy already on the roster.
