SAD NEWS: Jason Kidd Face Major Setback as the 25-year-old Sensational Star Ruled-Out with a Critical Injury…

One of the Mavericks’ Duke basketball alumni has suffered a significant injury. Kyrie Irving, the backcourt co-star alongside Dallas Mavericks sensation Luka Doncic, broke his left hand during a workout a few weeks ago. The 2010-11 Duke basketball standout and top overall draft pick recently underwent surgery to repair the injury, the Mavericks announced this week.

The Mavericks have not provided a timeline for the 32-year-old’s recovery. However, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that “a team source expressed optimism that Kyrie Irving would recover in time to participate in training camp.”

Training camp begins in early October, roughly two and a half months from now.

Fortunately for Irving, the injury was to his non-shooting hand. Despite this, the legendary playmaker, who averaged 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game in his first full season in Dallas, is known for his ability to deliver crucial plays with his left hand when necessary.

Former Duke basketball players Dereck Lively II and Kyrie Irving

The Mavericks are coming off an exhilarating journey to the NBA Finals, where they ultimately fell to 2016-17 Duke basketball alum Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics in five games. Dallas’ duo of NBA Blue Devils, including rookie backup center Dereck Lively II, played a significant role in the franchise’s return to the sport’s biggest stage since their 2010-11 championship run.

Dallas aims to build on that success next season. Having Kyrie Irving fully recovered from his hand injury and ready for opening night would undoubtedly be a major boost for the team’s aspirations.
