Good News: Four-star Defensive Weapon Finally Commits to Tennessee Football to Bolster Josh Heupel Roster…

Tennessee football has bolstered its 2025 recruiting class with the addition of four-star linebacker Christian Gass. According to On3 Recruiting, Gass is ranked as the No. 85 player and the No. 6 linebacker in the 2025 class.

Hailing from Covington, Georgia, Gass chose Tennessee over several SEC rivals, including Georgia, USC, Kentucky, and Florida. In his decision, Gass emphasized the genuine approach of the Vols coaching staff.

“Tennessee has been genuine with me from the beginning,” Gass told On3. “When I narrowed things down, who was genuine and who showed me love was important. Tennessee always did that. Coach Ek (Mike Ekeler), coach William Inge, and the entire coaching staff made me a priority. They showed me I was important to them, and that never changed.

“How they got to know me for me was big, too. Tennessee recruited me as a person and as a linebacker, so that showed me a lot. I feel comfortable with the coaches there. They are good people with good energy who got to know me.”

The commitment of Gass highlights the player-first approach of head coach Josh Heupel and his staff, at least in the recruiting process.

With Gass’ commitment, the Vols now boast the No. 10 recruiting class in the country and the No. 5 class in the SEC, according to On3’s recruiting rankings. More good news could be on the horizon for Tennessee, as several other blue-chip athletes are considering committing to the Vols in the coming weeks.

Gass joins an impressive list of recent commits to Tennessee, including four-star wide receiver Travis Smith, four-star defensive lineman Charles House, four-star edge rusher Mariyon Dye, four-star offensive lineman Douglas Utu, and three-star corner Tre Poteat.

The Vols are also in the running for additional top talent, with four-star safety Lagonza Hayward, four-star offensive lineman Juan Gaston, and five-star offensive linemen David Sanders Jr. and Josh Petty all expected to commit soon.
