Former Milwaukee Bucks Player Gets New Deal With San Antonio Spurs
Although Sandro Mamukelashvili is no longer with the Milwaukee Bucks, his value as an NBA player remains evident. The San Antonio Spurs recognized his potential and recently signed him to a new contract.
Mamukelashvili, a Georgian-American professional basketball player, was selected in the second round, 54th overall, by the Indiana Pacers in the 2021 NBA Draft. He spent two seasons with the Bucks, from 2021 to 2023, after signing with them post-draft.
During his tenure with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, Mamukelashvili also played for their G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd. He showcased his skills in the 2023 NBA G League Next Up Game and earned a spot on the Next Up Game roster.
In 2023, Mamukelashvili joined the San Antonio Spurs, playing as a center/power forward. He has continued to develop, demonstrating versatility as a big man who can score, rebound, and facilitate.
The former Bucks forward displayed significant potential last season, with increased playing time towards the end of the year leading to solid production. His addition brings the Spurs’ roster to 14 players, just one short of the maximum allowed.
Sandro Mamukelashvili Secures One-Year Deal With San Antonio Spurs
Due to his impressive performance last season, the Spurs extended Mamukelashvili’s contract. ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed the news in a tweet on his official X account.
“Free agent F Sandro Mamukelashvili has agreed on a one-year, $2.2 million deal to return to the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell ESPN. George Roussakis and Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports confirmed the deal,” Woj tweeted.
Before proving his worth with San Antonio, Mamukelashvili spent two seasons with Milwaukee, where he averaged 3.2 points on 34 percent shooting from deep and 2.1 rebounds.
With Mamukelashvili secured for another year, the Spurs can look forward to his continued contributions on the court. His presence, combined with All-Star point guard Chris Paul running the offense, is expected to help him thrive alongside Victor Wembanyama and the rest of the team.
