Big Win for Texas Football: 4-star Talent Commits, Leaving USC and Other Rivals Disappointed

In a major boost for Texas football, head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that a 4-star talent has finally committed to the Longhorns, choosing them over several top rivals.

USC’s Loss: A 4-star Target Chooses Texas Instead

The USC football program, still reeling from the departure of Caleb Williams, had high hopes for bolstering their wide receiver corps with top talent from the 2025 recruiting class. Kelshaun Johnson, one of the best prospects, was heavily pursued by USC’s Lincoln Riley and Texas A&M’s Mike Elko.

Recruitment season often sees a mix of jubilation and disappointment among major programs. This time, Texas fans have reason to celebrate as they secured the commitment of elite wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. Johnson’s decision is a testament to Sarkisian’s recruiting prowess and the promising future he envisions for the Longhorns.

On the other hand, USC, along with SMU, Arkansas, and other contenders, missed out on this dynamic playmaker. Johnson’s versatility as a slot receiver and his ability to execute deep routes and adapt to broken plays made him a highly coveted prospect.

Johnson Chooses Texas Over USC and Others

Every aspiring football player dreams of reaching the NFL, and Johnson’s decision came down to what Texas A&M offered that he couldn’t resist. Mike Elko’s ability to develop players and the welcoming environment at Texas A&M were decisive factors in Johnson’s commitment.

“When I first got there, it felt like home. The whole staff treated me, my mom, and my sister like we belonged there. They really cared for not only me but also my mom and my sister,” Johnson shared, as reported by Chad Johnson of On3 Sports.

Texas A&M’s program made a lasting impression on Johnson, who is ranked as the 30th-best player in Texas and 196th nationally, with significant athletic potential.

“What I like about him is how he carries himself. When he was talking to me, I could tell that he genuinely cared for me. He knows what my goal is in life, to get to the next level. When I go there, he is going to push me to the maximum. That’s what I’m looking for in a coach. I want a coach who is going to give me their all and I am going to give them my all to get to the next level,” Johnson declared.

The commitment of Kelshaun Johnson marks a significant victory for Texas football, promising a bright future as he joins the Longhorns.
